Time to Say Goodbye
Updated: Feb 24, 2021
My Dear Friend,
There is a time for everything.
I look back over the time we had together with fondness. I recall the memories we will always share, the inside jokes that still bring a chuckle, and the hopes we confided in one another. Somewhere along the way, the season of “us” began to wane. Our depth of friendship changed and transitioned from deep, to shallow, to dry and barren.
True friendship is a two way street that consists of both individuals opening the door to their hearts. It means being real with one another and sharing in each other’s sorrows and joys. It takes two who are willing to reach out, but also humbly let the other in to view the construction zone we hide from most. True friendship is trusting, confiding, and loving the other. Perhaps what has happened between us is simply that we have different definitions of friendship.
“To make a friend, you have to be a friend.”
I have reached out to you for years, but I can’t be the only one. I need you to respond. I need you to be willing to let me come close.
There is a time for everything. A time to hold, a time to say goodbye, and a time to let go.
My heart feels the pangs of the loss. You cannot be forced to walk through it, but my door will always be open to you. When you come to mind, I will choose to thank God for you. When I see your picture, I will pray that God continues His grace work in your life just as He is in mine. Though I am saying goodbye for now, I will never give up hope for you and a renewed friendship.
Your forever friend,
