Lost Forever?

Sometimes the best quotes come from the strangest places. We were watching "Dr. Strange, the Multiverse of Madness." In the story, the character and trustworthiness of Dr. Strange were in question because of past actions. He stood in front of people who were ready to justly give a harsh sentence.

Maybe you're familiar with the hopelessness of a damaged name. You understand that, no matter what you do to make things right, some will never see beyond who you once were or the sin committed. Or perhaps your name has been unjustly tarnished and there has been misjudgment of your heart and character that's destroyed your reputation. Either way, you stand condemned.

Take heart. There is hope for you.

In the movie, a character named Professor X gave wisdom saying, "Just because someone stumbles and loses their way doesn't mean they're lost forever."

What a beautiful truth that applies to real life! What once was doesn't mean it's what will always be! Though you may experience consequences from past choices, there is One who offers gifts of forgiveness and redemption to those who have repented of sin (1 John 1:9, 2 Peter 3:9, James 4:8, Eph. 2:8, Hebrews 8:12).

You are not eternally lost if you have been saved. You do not have to carry the judgement of man or shame of the past. No matter what anyone else thinks or says of you today, there is only one opinion that will stand. Put the others down. You have been given a new identity. The old is gone. You are clean and free from the stains of yesterday. You don't have to worry about defending or proving yourself. Walk in the freedom Jesus gives because He has covered you in His name. Your focus can shift from fear of man to making much of the God who has changed you.

Jesus gives more than a second chance.

You've been given a new story.

Go in peace and live it before Him.

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:9
