Just Around the Corner
This corner in a small town means something to me. A few years ago I reunited with my uncle in that spot. We didn't know each other very well and, honestly, I was a little nervous. Still, we were both excited for the rare opportunity to visit. We took our picture against a brick wall. We sat together on a bench outside a quaint coffee shop to talk. What I didn't know then was that it would be our last meeting this side of Heaven.
I recently went to the corner again and was taken aback by the emotion that surfaced as I recalled that day. Uncle Keith had enthusiastically told me about how Jesus had saved him and changed his life. He surprised me by sharing how he loved reading my writing and told me not to give up. There's something really special about encouragement that comes from family.
I'm grateful to have that memory with him and to know that there is a spot on this earth that was, just for a moment, ours to share. It is a God-given gift.
There's no way to know how much time we have with others. Perhaps that's one reason why, when it comes to our to-do list, we need to remember that people come first. One conversation and minute in time may become something always cherished.
Don't miss it. Let's look forward with the intention of making the most of even the little moments that can take place just around the corner.
