Getting My Crafty On…

I’m a “crafty” wanna-be…. meaning, I am a Pinterestaholic. What’s for dinner tonight? I don’t know… let me scour Pinterest! What craft would be fun to do with the kids? Pinterest has the answer! How can I transform a piece of “junk” into treasure? Pinterest! If only I could be so crafty on my own! (But, really, who needs to be when Pinterest is at your fingertips!)

My grandfather was recently cleaning out his basement and came across my old crib that had been collecting dust. Thanks to all of the regulations on cribs nowdays, it was no longer deemed “safe” for children. (I gnawed on it when I was a toddler and turned out just fine, thank you very much! Haha!)

The old crib was on its way to the dump until I asked that it be delivered to my house. “What are you going to do with it?” Umm… hello… Pinterest! So I typed “old crib” into the Pinterest search engine and a multitude of wonderful ideas materialized before my eyes.

I am kicking myself for not taking any before pictures, but I have to share the “after” pictures with you.

The first thing I wanted to do was make an easel out of the crib ends.  Spray paint and chalk paint go a long way!  My wonderful mother-in-law helped get the pieces hinged together.  I have helped decorate two baby showers in the past few weeks, so I was thrilled to use the easel at both.  I plan to distress and wax the easel in the near future.

My next project was to spray paint the crib springs. I plan to hang that on a wall behind my desk and use clothespins to hang pictures and cards on it.  At the last shower, we used it to hang baby pictures of the mother and father as well as ultrasound pictures of their sweet baby.

Isn’t it fun to find new purposes for old things?  Thanks, Pinterest! :)
