A Missing Piece

When you work on a puzzle, you will be able to see part of the picture before it's finished. Still, it isn't complete until the final piece is put in place. The journey of striving to know God through the study of His Word is like putting a puzzle together. It will never be complete on this side of Heaven. There's an ever-present awareness that the view now is like seeing in a "mirror dimly" and we only know in part what will one day be fully known (1 Cor. 13:12). But sometimes, as the Holy Spirit works within, we're given one more piece that lets us see a little more than before.

I've always been drawn to the Psalms. The raw honesty of the pages is relatable no matter time, personality, or experience. One thing that I've come to love about the Father is how He allows us to come as we are with hard questions and complicated emotions. What I didn't know for a long time, though, was that that's only part of the picture.

Sometimes God reveals Truth repeatedly (I'm convinced this is because I'm usually too thick-headed to get it the first time). I recently heard someone share something, but I didn't understand until our pastor was talking about Psalm 10 and bringing hard questions before the Lord. What makes a question sincere? It's the willingness to hear and receive the response. As our pastor said, "It's okay to ask the hard questions as long as you're willing to hear the answer."

Ah - a missing piece that deepens my understanding and appreciation of God! He is Truth. He is all-knowing. He is wisdom. He is the Great Counselor. No question is wasted if I'm are willing come before Him with open hands that are ready to receive His Word.

A friend and I were talking and she said some wise words, "It seems like, most of the time, God doesn't change our circumstances but He changes us." When we're truly seeking the Lord and His counsel (and not trying to put the the words we want in His mouth), He works miracles of transformation.

What a hope-filled truth that transcends any situation you or I may be facing!

May He give us teachable hearts ready to receive His answers.

The Lord is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.
Psalm 145:18
