A Lady Should Never...

"Being ladylike does not require silence," Betty Ford.

As I walked through the museum halls, I appreciated seeing the classy fashion worn by First Lady Betty Ford. The exhibits revealed much of her life that I didn't previously know.

She decided to use her voice to expose topics that were not necessarily common public subjects. Mrs. Ford shared her experience with breast cancer and her struggles with substance abuse while laying her reputation on the line. What struck me about her choice to break the silence and the boundaries defining a lady was the motive behind it - She wanted her stories to help others.

There is a time for everything - for silence and words. But for seasons of speech, I love Betty's example and the reminder that we've all been given a voice that can greatly influence if used for the benefit of those who hear.

Where and how might God be calling you to communicate? I pray we will find the courage to speak Truth because the soul needing to hear it is worth the risk.

"A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in a setting of silver." Proverbs 25:11
